Attic Treasures
I do so love looking back and remembering all those wonderful times and people I have stored away in my memory. These days I find I visit my storehouse of treasures from days gone by quite frequently. When I want to reminisce I only need to go and rummage through trunks and boxes and instantly I am once again young, and a girl once more. A wife, a young mother, always full of anticipation and wonderment, and I feel remorse that I rushed through so many of those days not realizing  just how fortunate I was even in the days which were troublesome or brought pain. We take life so much for granted never realizing that those moments will not come again.

However, they do live on in our memories and hopefully we learn to appreciate them more as the years pass and find solace or joy in remembering. For no matter what life has bestowed upon us every single occurrence, or mishap or person who has been a part of our life's experiences has added to the person we have become.

Wiser hopefully, and with fewer regrets than gratitude that we did the best we could and hurt as few as possible along the way. In the final analysis the person we see today when we look in a mirror is either our nemesis or our best friend. Don't judge that person too harshly. They are only human after all and human beings don't always get it right. At least not the first time. If they have learned along the way and improved, then you can take comfort in knowing they heeded the lessons of life and can be at peace with themselves.

Allow me to share with you something I have treasured always. I hope it will give you pause for thought and perhaps even add to your peace of mind. It always has mine.

The Desiderata

Go placidly amid the noise and haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.

As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others,
even the dull and ignorant; they too have their story.

Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter;
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.

Keep interested in your career, however humble;
it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs; for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals; and everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself. Especially, do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love;
for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment
it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years,
gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself.

You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be,
and whatever your labors and aspirations, in the
noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.

With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world..

 Be cheerful.

Strive to be happy.
