Beauty of a Rose

The Game of Life

Far too many allow chronological age to determine how they look at life. I believe this is a horrendous mistake. Youth is not a time of life. It's a state of mind.

Douglas McArthur once said "Nobody grows old by merely living a number of years. People grow old by deserting their ideals. Years may wrinkle the skin, but to give up wrinkles the soul." I believe he was correct.   When we worry and fret about things which may or may not ever happen, we waste precious time we should be living.

Whether seventy or seventeen, there is in every heart the love of wonder, the sweet amazement at nature's beauty, the undaunted challenge of events, the unfailing childlike appetite for what's next, and the joy for the game of life. Denying ourselves these blessings is robbing ourselves of our God given right to enjoy life.

Life is measured not by what we accumulate but by what we have contributed.  Not by our material possessions but by how much we have enjoyed the journey along the way. Not by distance traveled, but by the road taken. The basic essentials of a productive life are having something to do, someone to love, and  living each day with optimism and hope always dominating your state of  mind.

The greatest achievement of the human spirit is to live up to one's opportunities and make the most of one's resources. When time, which steals our years away, also steals our pleasures as the years pass, we still always have our memories which bring renewed joy in the remembering.

Before you say, 'easy enough for her to say',  let me tell you I have had my share of heartaches and problems through the years as I am no different than anyone else but I refuse to allow them to defeat me or control how I live my life. Time may pass more quickly these days but I intend to live every second  of every day I am on this earth  to the fullest. I refuse to waste that time in worrying about things which are past or which are beyond my control.

Control .. that is the key. Take control of your life. We may not be able to influence world events  or what fate may bring but we can influence how we deal with them. Far more is accomplished by facing life with a positive outlook than by succumbing to defeatism and negativity. The problems are more manageable, the day's are brighter, and seven chances out of ten are that things will turn out much better than the doom and gloom merchants project.

When we are children we worry about the moment. It is only as we grow up we worry about tomorrow and the day after. We waste so much time as adults indulging in 'what ifs' that we miss  the joy of 'what is'. Who says wisdom comes with age?

Someone once said "You've got to dance like no one's watching, and love like it's never going to hurt ". Why not try it ? Sure beats the heck out of dragging your feet through life.

The quality of life is in the mind not in material things. The world is filled with beauty when you embrace it with optimism and love. Live every day as if it were your last. Cherish yesterday. Look forward to tomorrow. Live every moment of Today.
