| A fresh new year.
A new beginning. After the past few years we need to see this New Year
as a threshold to a future which we reassess with a fresh appreciation
of how precious our freedoms are and with the determination that we will
never allow a challenge to those principles and standards we hold so dear
to go unanswered.
I pray our children
... who are in reality ' our tomorrow ' ... move forward into the future
with the courage and wisdom to use the knowledge we have gained through
the years and have at times forgotten. May they avoid the many pitfalls
we encountered as we made the journey to this time and place in our history.
May what we do in the coming months assure that their future is one which
is built on trust in one's fellow man and a respect for the differing beliefs
of the peoples of every nation.
May they know that
it is the fundamental things such as love and duty, family, respect for
their fellow man , and an innate appreciation for the beauty which abounds
around us which make living truly worthwhile.
If they remember
these things, their tomorrows will inevitably bring them joy. Perhaps we
have on occasion stumbled on our way to this milestone in time, but if
only our children take our lessons learned and apply them in the years
to come ... what better legacy could we possibly provide ?

We would do well
to remember that no matter how many storm tossed seas there may have been
over this past year ... there is always a tomorrow with the promise of
a sunrise to reassure us as the new day dawns that it brings a fresh new
beginning.
With each new beginning
we have a blank page of life, the authoring of which is completely up to
us. I pray in this coming year we all remember to write wisely.
Yesterday ...
Today ... and Tomorrow
There are two days
in the week about which I never worry
One of these days
is Yesterday.
Yesterday, with
its cares and frets and pains and aches,
All its faults,
its mistakes and blunders,
Has passed forever
beyond my recall.
It was mine; it is
God's.
The other day
that I do not worry about is Tomorrow.
Tomorrow, with all
its possible adversities, its burdens, its perils,
Its large promise
and performance, its failures and mistakes,
Is as far beyond
my mastery as its dead sister, Yesterday.
Tomorrow is God's
day; it will be mine.
There is left, then,
but one day in the week ... Today.
Any man can fight
the battles of today.
Any woman can carry
the burdens of just one day;
Any man can resist
the temptation of today.
It is only when
we add the burdens of these two eternities
Yesterday and Tomorrow
that we break down.
It isn't the experience
of Today that drives men mad.
It is the remorse
of what happened Yesterday
and fear of what
Tomorrow might bring.
These are God's Days
... Leave them to Him.

Our attitudes are so
very important. We can't change the past or predict how people will act
in the future but I am convinced that what happens in life is in large
measure directly related to our attitude. I'm going to begin 2008 with
the attitude that its going to be the best year ever. I pray this coming
year sees our countries secure, and not only our world but
so many other troubled areas of this planet finally finding solutions
which will ultimately lead to peace and homecomings for all the young men
and women in harm's way around the world safeguarding our freedoms.
Do remember ... "Lost
... somewhere between sunrise and sunset ... sixty golden minutes ... each
set with sixty diamond seconds... There is no reward for their return for
they are lost forever." Time is so very precious ... and
so fleeting. Each of us must cherish every single moment.
All of
us at Slim's Place wish a Happy, Healthy, and Safe New Year
to everyone who has dropped by and visited with us this past year ....
or who may drop by in the days to come. We sincerely thank you for taking
the time to visit.
