A puppy lives in this home. You are welcome
to come and visit anytime, but know that he is as much a part of this family
as we are. Tuffy will show joy as you enter our home and may overwhelm
you with his greeting as he has no inhibitions when it comes to welcoming
a guest.
If you do not enjoy being lavished
with "puppy love", then you may not feel comfortable here, because this
is his home too. He is loving and sweet and trusting and if you don't feel
better after such a warm welcome then you just don't understand unconditional
acceptance and love. In his excitement at having company he may seem a
nuisance for a short time but he does understand that your visit is not
only his and will very soon settle down and perhaps even lay at your feet
quietly as we visit or amuse himself with his toys. All it will take is
a few minutes of your time to pat him and say hello and he will happily
respect your right to relax and even ignore him if you so choose.
Tuffy is guided by us in choosing
the
welcome you receive. If we are not comfortable with your presence he will
very quickly show his displeasure as well. He's tiny but has the heart
of a lion and sees himself as the guardian for our home. He lavishes affection
on all those we greet with a smile but heaven help those whom we might
find unwelcome.
Don't ask that we banish him while you
are here. We never punish him when he has done nothing which is not his
right. And this is his domain as much as it is ours.
You will need to watch where you step as
he does leave his many toy treasures around and I have learned that there
is more to having a happy home than worrying if there is clutter around
when someone drops by. A neat house won't make you feel loved. Our wee
guy will and does. From the moment he joined our family he has given his
heart and his soul to us with unconditional trust and love. His loyalty
is unquestioned and he asks nothing but that we love him in return.
He knows only kindness and love. We expect
our guests to recognize and respect this and act accordingly.
There are many that find it difficult to
understand the love between a pet and his family, but let me assure you,
such a bond exists, and it is a very real and precious bond. A far more
dependable one than any between we humans. We could learn much from
our furry friends if we only took the time to appreciate how selfless
the love they bestow upon us is even during those times when we may disappoint.
They don't stand in judgment. We are their family and that is all that
counts.Tuffy never notices my bad moods or if he does he chooses to make
allowances. He doesn't turn away when I am cranky or out of sorts. He patiently
waits for the mood to pass or does something designed to comfort me or
to cheer me up. And he invariably succeeds.
So please understand, you are a welcome
guest. He is a very much loved family member who exhibits more loyalty
and affection toward us than we ever even imagined existed. To say I adore
this little guy would be gigantic understatement. He owns me heart
and soul. He fills my life with joy even when things are difficult or worrisome.
I know all I need to do is turn and he is there. Ready to be whatever I
need him to be. Quiet, playful, or simply there with a kiss and a snuggle
which says its ok Mom, I'm here. He simply knows. And he is there. Animals
sense so much we don't even realize. They cannot speak, but look into their
eyes. They speak volumes. And always with unquestioning, undemanding, constant
love.
I am so blessed that my husband
chose last year to give me the gift of this tiny being. No gift has ever
brought me such happiness or been so welcome. We knew the instant we saw
one another that we belonged together and he came home with us that very
same day. There was no question. It was as if he had only been waiting
for me to come for him. He is truly my very best friend. When Petey left
me Tuffy was here to comfort me having already placed his heart in my keeping.
Now, to imagine life without Tuffy is impossible. He makes everything bearable
no matter what problems or worries I may face. He fills my heart with a
love beyond imagining. He has taught me that dogs are most assuredly our
best friend. I believe its more than just coincidence that God gave us
animals to love. What better example could we humans possibly have of the
blessing of unequivocal love for one another regardless of the differences
between us ?
And why is it that we supposedly
intelligent human beings still aren't getting the message this conveys
?
"Heaven goes by favour. If it went by merit,
you would stay out and your dog would go in."
